Greetyngs...
There are many vampire links on the net, but few on dhampirs. More information exists on these offspring of the undead and mortals than I realized. What I have here is only a small portion of what is available.
The dhampir myth has its foundations in gypsy legends. Along with the dhampir - the vampire creature accompanying it is called a "mullo". A part of the basis for this myth is founded on the need for revenge.
Gypsies believed some vampires had an insatiable sexual appetite and would return from the grave to have sexual relations with their widow or a young woman of their choosing.
These visits could lead to the young woman becoming pregnant. The product of such a union, usually male, was called a DHAMPIR. A dhampir (simply put) is the resulting offspring from a male vampire and a female mortal. If you seek an example... watch the anime movie "Vampire Hunter D" or read my book, "Dhampir" available here:
A dhampir gets most of it's powers from it's father - the vampire. Great strength, the ability to control animals, to detect and destroy vampires, etc., are all important, however unlike their father they can venture out during daylight hours. The dhampir is otherwise considered a normal member of the Gypsy community, though some were thought to possess a slippery, jelly-like body and only lived a short time - a belief derived from the thought that vampires had no bones. The powers of the dhampir could be passed on to a male offspring through the family line and were also reputed to be extremely seductive.
